Job description
The 60 residents at our facility are divided into groups of 10 and cared for by 3-4 staff members. This involves assisting with meals, bathing, toileting, etc. Yamabukien's motto is "independence for residents," so we help with things that residents cannot reach or do on their own. For about three months, they are taught how to deal with residents by a senior staff member in charge of training. (Night shifts are about four times a month.) Caregivers look after all aspects of the residents' lives, so in addition to changing sheets, cleaning rooms, and organizing clothes, they also wash rice before cooking and tidy up bowls.
